(6) Special Announcement: It is with great joy that I announce the publication of my grandmother's first book, "West Virginia Farm Stories." Comprised of short stories, this book details life in the early 20th century--before cars, airplanes, computers, and cell phones. As stated on the book's back cover, "author Mary Cordelia Riffee Figgatt was born in 1904 and began writing this incredible memoir when she was 93 years old. She taught herself how to use the computer and started writing about what it was like growing up in rural Putnam County in the early 1900s. She spent seven years writing, and finished it in time for her 100th birthday party. She wrote it for her children, so they could read about growing up in those very different times in the early part of the last century . . .."
My grandmother's book will be available starting the week of April 7, 2008 at Taylor Books, Frog Creek Books, and the Fountain Hobby Center in Charleston, West Virginia, and at Borders Book Store in the Huntington Mall. The book is also available by calling West Virginia Book Company at 304-342-1848. My grandmother is currently 104 years young. -- Craig Giffin
