     About WV Dance

 

     WV Dance offers the finest in private and group ballroom dancing lessons and ballroom dance deejaying in West Virginia.  

     WV Dance's mission is to promote ballroom dancing, and forms of dance associated with ballroom dancing, throughout West Virginia for the benefit and enjoyment of all of West Virginia's citizens.  Some of the locations at which we have taught include Charleston, Hurricane, Glenville, Parkersburg, Summersville, Spencer, and Winfield, West Virginia. 

     Instruction is given in the ballad, bolero, cha cha, foxtrot, hustle, mambo, merengue, nightclub 2 step, polka, rhumba, salsa, samba, four count swing, six count swing, american tango, american waltz, and west coast swing.  Deejaying services are provided in all of these dances, plus argentine tango, quickstep, viennese waltz, and country two step.   

   

     About WV Dance's Instructors

 

Craig Giffin is an accomplished dancer in both smooth and Latin forms of dance and has trained regionally, nationally, and internationally since 1998 in ballroom dancing.  When he's not dancing, Craig practices law.  Craig has received instruction in both the Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray styles of dance.  Internationally, Craig has taken dancing instruction in such far flung places as Buenos Aires, Argentina, Cairo, Egypt, and Melbourne Australia.  Some of the dancing events and training sessions that Craig has attended include the 2002 CITA Argentine Tango Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina and also the 2005 Corn Palace Polka Festival in Mitchell, South Dakota.  In 2005 Craig joined Dancers at Sea -- an organization that teaches ballroom dancing on cruise ships worldwide.  Craig has cruised with Dancers at Sea on multiple occasions including a 2005 Caribbean cruise on the Queen Mary 2, a January 2007 Caribbean cruise on the Costa Mediterranea, and a August 2008 Mediterranean Sea cruise to Italy, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, France, and Spain aboard the Queen Victoria.  Locally, Craig is a member of USA Dance, the Passepied Club, the Academy Club, and the Latin Club.  Craig obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Shepherd University and his Juris Doctorate degree from West Virginia University.   

 

Julia McCormick graciously volunteers her time to WV Dance.  Julia has danced for over twenty years and has successfully competed in and received awards from her participation in various ballroom dancing competitions, including the Heritage Classic Dancesport Championships, held annually at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina, the Atlanta Ballroom Classic in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Epcot Center World Showcase held at the Buena Vista Palace in Walt Disney World.  Julia is a member of many of the dance clubs in Charleston including the Passepied, University, Academy, Latin, Quadrille, and Cotillian Clubs.   

 

Jay Giffin assists WV Dance with administrative functions, including registering people for our dance classes.  Jay has been associated with WV Dance since 2007.  Some of Jay's other hobbies (besides helping WV Dance) include hunting and travelling.  Jay holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters of Science degree from Marshall University.
